POLICE WEEK EVENTS AROUND THE REGION




On October 1, 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15th to be National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week in “honor of the Federal, State, and municipal officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.”

IOWA 

Iowa's Peace Officer's Memorial Ceremony will be held May 9, 2014 at 10 AM at the Iowa Peace Officer's Memorial which is located at the State Capitol complex next to the Oran Pape State Office Building.  The State Capitol address is:  1007 E Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA.  The event will be held in the Capitol Rotunda if there is inclement weather.

WISCONSIN

Wisconsin's Peace Officer's Memorial Ceremony will be held May 9, 2014 at Noon at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Site located on the Wisconsin State Capitol grounds.  The State Capitol address is:  2 E Main Street, Madison, WI.

NEBRASKA

Nebraska's Peace Officer's Memorial Ceremony will be held May 12, 2014 at 10 AM at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial which is located at 700 E Stolley Park Road, Grand Island, NE.

NORTH DAKOTA

North Dakota's Peace Officer's Memorial Ceremony will be held May 13, 2014 at 8 PM at the Nebraska Peace Officer's Memorial which is located on the Nebraska State Capitol grounds.  The State Capitol is located at:  600 E Blvd Avenue, Bismarck, ND.

SOUTH DAKOTA

South Dakota's Peace Officer's Memorial Ceremony will be on May 14, 2014.  It will begin at 9:30 AM with a wreath laying at the Fallen Officer's Memorial which is located at the South Dakota State Capitol.  The State Capitol address is:  500 E Capitol Avenue, Pierre, SD.  A procession will then leave at 10 AM from the George S Mickelson Criminal Justice Training Center located at:  1302 E Hwy 14, Pierre, SD.  The events will conclude with a ceremony at 10:30 AM at the Madison Avenue Church of Christ located at:  323 N Madison Avenue, Pierre, SD.

MINNESOTA

Minnesota's Peace Officer's Memorial events will be held at the MN Peace Officer's Memorial at the Minnesota State Capitol grounds.  The State Capitol is located at:  75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, St. Paul, MN.  Events will begin on May 14, 2014 at 7 PM when MNLEMA and officer's from around the region begin a standing of the memorial guard which will continue around the clock until May 15, 2014 at 7 PM.  At 7:30 PM on May 15, 2014 a parade of Honor Guards, Color Guards, and the Emerald Society's Pipes and Drums will proceed down Wabasha Avenue to the the MN Peace Officer's Memorial where a candlelight vigil will be held.

Please consider attending one of these events around the Region and take time to honor those officer's that have given their lives in the line of duty and those officer's that have been disabled in the line of duty.
